My Background
I completed a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Lisbon in 2021, and I am currently pursuing a MSc in Bioinformatics at the university of Birmingham. In the past, I have spent 2 years working at EMBL Rome in a project related with unraveling the neural circuits responsible for instinctive defensive behaviours. More recently I have been involved in projects related with data analysis and machine learning: I spent 1 year working for Lichtman's lab at Harvard doing EM data analysis, and 2 years working for the Chiappe Lab at Champalimaud building AI models capable of characterising and predicting certain behaviours of the fruit fly in real-time coupled with optogenetic manipulations.
My Research Interests
I have a strong interest in applying novel data science techniques to analysing data related with health conditions. In the lab, I will be working with methylation data in a project that aims to identify genes that are involved in chronic pain.
